At Randy's studio getting a behind-the-scenes glimpse into
his process. He starts by selecting
a stone from his Alabaster library, sourced primarily from Italy.
He then suits up for the wet
stone saw.

No two pieces of Alabaster the same, making this process of slicing through the stone and unveiling its unique veining such
a poetic process.

Janaki Larsen

Raised by gifted creatives, Janaki Larsen is a business owner, a mother, and an artist, with an immense talent
for creating reflective universes within everything she touches. Working with the likes of Gwyneth Paltrow,
Noma, Roman & Williams Guild, Mr.Porter, and many others, her eponymous pottery is ever-unique, with
no two pieces exactly alike. Janaki’s work is created with a Wabi-Sabi outlook, primarily inspired by
nature—earthy tones are prominent, with organic shapes, textures and her signature,
imperfectly-perfect nuances. Each piece is art, but also a part of the every day life, to be enjoyed.

“Nature is, by far, the best designer.”

What do you see? Barnacles? Shells? Mistakes? Decisions? The work of Janaki Larsen is so natural and organic in its process that the final forms can’t help but echo the beauty of nature.

What is the nature of genius?
Is it always intellectual?
Can one be an emotional or an aesthetic genius? The work of Larsen seems to exhibit both.

Our first Hookup project is this 11 foot long ceramic enigma.

The two pieces reside tabletop in our Vancouver and Calgary studios—open to and for interpretation—wether enjoyed as it was created, or joined by the talent of a chef,
perhaps a florist, or wherever the mind may lead…
